Loading...Well, the second day of pre-Convention meetings was pretty busy. Most of us began with organizational meetings of our legislative committees. Those meetings were anywhere from one to four hours long. Since Suzanne and I were set free before 11:00, we took advantage of the time and walked to the City Market, about a mile away. After a lunch of crepes, we returned to the Convention Center and more meetings. Dispatch of Business met for an hour to hear about the morning's progress.
There was a hearing for Program Budget and Finance. 600 people were there so I don't think Suzanne and I were missed. ;-)
We then sat as a body of the whole - bishops and deputies in one room - to hear remarks by Bishop Katharine and President Anderson. I confess to missing the orientation as I needed to attend to parish business - the sad news of the death of Bea Caperton - but I got back in time for the testing of the voting machines. That was fun!
At this point, it was 4:30, a reasonable quitting time but we went back into committee hearings for two hours. The Prayer Book committee sent eight resolutions to the House of Bishops for consideration.
And then it was time to play! Despite the temperature, many of wandered all the way across the street to the ball park where the Indianapolis Indians wiped out the Louisville Bats. My seat was next to a friend from Louisville, so I cheered for both sides. Some people stayed for fireworks and others retired to the bar to cool off and renew friendships from - all over our church.
Sleep was welcome and well-earned.
