Loading...The Episcopal School of Knoxville is set to host a Tennessee Association of Independent Schools Regional Technology Forum as part of a series of statewide events held by TAIS.
The special Regional Forum will be held Friday, Nov. 15, in Googe Hall at ESK. It is composed of four outstanding presentations that will encompass topics from 3D printing to meaningful technology integration. Sessions will run from 10-11:30 followed by a delicious boxed lunch provided by ESK’s dining hall staff.
“ESK is very excited to host this TAIS event on our campus for the second straight year,” ESK Director of Technology Julie King said. “We have an excellent panel of faculty and staff prepared to share on topics that are at the cutting edge of technology in education.”
The first session is called “Robotics, 3D Printing and Maker Clubs in Middle School”. This talk will explore ESK’s First Lego League team and Maker Club members who are designing and printing innovative projects on our Makerbot Replicator 2 3D printer. Cary Busby will share her strategies for managing all aspects of these projects with middle school students.
Technology instructor Brett Tannhauser and Latin instructor Curtis Bower are the presenters for the second session called “Google Apps and Edmodo in the Classroom”. Tannhauser and Bower will share how Edmodo and Google Drive can be used together to create a free and effective cloud-based way for students to interact and learn.
In the third session, titled “Weebly Websites 101 – Easy Websites for Teachers and Students”, ESK Director of Communications Melissa Callahan and Kindergarten teacher Kristie Saliba will share introductory steps to getting a helpful website up and running. Weebly provides a free, web-based and easy way to create classroom websites with photo galleries and more.
The afternoon will conclude with “Make IT Matter: Meaningful Technology Integration.” This talk will focus on how technology is best used in school to support the curriculum and will stress that no one device can be the best answer to every situation. King will share some strategies for choosing effective tools, apps and resources for effectively integrating technology at your school.
The forum is free to faculty members of TAIS member schools while faculty from non-member schools will be charged $25.
