Congregations Encouraged to Support Grace Point Outreach Camps

As many of you know, the ministry of Grace Point Camp changes lives.  This year, the Grace Point Outreach Camping program is encouraging congregations to consider support of the outreach camps through scholarships for children in their local communities who otherwise might not have a chance to experience camp.   If you are unfamiliar with our diocesan camp or need an update, please check out the Grace Point website, www.gracepointcamp.org.

The Board of Managers asks that each congregation provide two to four Outreach Camp Scholarships for either Camp Jim Muir for children of incarcerated parents, June 26-July 1, or Camp Billy Johnson, July 6-11.

Eligibility

  • Children who are rising 4th-8th graders and who due to circumstances such as poverty, homelessness, incarcerated parents, or out-of-home placement would not have the opportunity to attend summer camp.

Cost

  • Full ($410) or partial scholarship
  • Camp clothes if needed (bathing suit, gym shorts, tee-shirt, toiletries)

*Bed linens and towels will be provided by Grace Point

Action

  • Select one of two ways to participate and notify Grace Point Executive Director Brad Jones of your intention bjones@gracepointcamp.org.

Sponsor a camper that has already been identified by a partner agency (Camp Jim Muir has already identified 30 potential campers)

Identify eligible children in your local community.   If you need assistance, school counselors, Boys and Girls Club, the Y, and other groups that serve children may have recommendations.  Contact Brad Jones at bjones@gracepointcamp.org to obtain an application packet.

  • Assist local families with the application process, camp clothes as needed, and help with arranging transportation if necessary (buses will be available from some locales).
  • Welcome changed children back to your community!

A member of the Grace Point Board of Managers will be in contact with you soon to answer your questions or you may contact Brad Jones, Grace Point Executive Director, bjones@gracepointcamp.org.

Yours in faith,

Chris Hackett, Chairperson,
