Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Hurricane Matthew is one of the largest hurricanes to ever hit Haiti. The internet and cell coverage right now are extremely poor, but I have been able to talk with our staff at headquarters in Leogane late this afternoon. They are doing fine, but the region has seen an extreme amount of rain and the extent of damage is unknown.
Moriah McArthur, our new country director, is working to contact all of our monitrices, many of whom live in very remote locations. We had asked all of our staff to prepare themselves and their families for the hurricane, and then be prepared to help their communities in the emergency relief effort. As a side note, besides her expertise in public health, Moriah also has a background in emergency preparedness as an instructor at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
CNP/Kore Timoun has a history of providing relief after a catastrophic event and we are prepared to do so again.
