Insure Tennessee will help more than 200,000 uninsured Tennesseans, many of whom are members of our churches and are hardworking persons and families – hairdressers, home health aids, construction and childcare workers, restaurant cooks, and retail cashiers.
We are the diocese that in 2009 sent a resolution calling for universal health care coverage which was adopted by the 76th General Convention of The Episcopal Church. We add our support along with William McAlilly, Resident Bishop of the Tennessee and Memphis Conferences of the Nashville Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church, in the shared belief that health is a condition of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. We understand that health is the responsibility of each person and that creating the personal, environment, and social condition in which health can thrive is a joint responsibility – public and private. We also believe it is a governmental responsibility to provide all citizens with affordable, inclusive, accessible, and accountable health care.
Insure Tennessee makes great strides towards these ends, helping not only individuals and families but also hospitals, especially smaller hospitals in our rural areas.
